The constant popularity of the 1980s anime hit Saint Seiya continues to spark revamped content for its fans to the present as filming for the Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya live-action movie has been completed. The cast includes Arata Mackenyu, Madison Iseman, Sean Bean, and Famke Janssen among others in a Toei Animation and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions production.
Based on Masami Kurumada's manga Saint Seiya, Mackenyu portrays the role of Seiya, an orphan who unknowingly possesses the power of Cosmo and is recruited by Alman Kiddo (Sean Bean) to join the Knights order.
Tomasz Baginski, the executive producer of The Witcher, is directing the movie. Andy Cheng is the production's fight coordinator, known for his work in Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). The Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya live-action movie is expected to be released in 2022.
Mackenyu previously starred in famous live-action adaptations such as Chihayafuru (2016) and Rurouni Kenshin: The Final (2021). He left his agency in Japan, TopCoat, in April 2021 to pursue acting overseas.
