Cowboy Bebop's 'Lost Session' teaser shows cool sepia aesthetic

Cowboy Bebop's newest teaser for "Lost Session" gives off the 70s vibe coupled with a sepia-ish aesthetic and comical interaction among the characters. Directed by Greg Jardin, the official teaser begins with Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) conversing about a new bounty, and Faye running off somewhere to pursue the mentioned criminal. Spike gets confronted by a foe, and he parades his moves and stunts only to find out that it isn't their target. Spike digresses and randomly comes to a noodles stand, much to Faye and Jet's dismay. He gets distracted by a figure in his imagination and only comes to his senses when his companions call him out. They continue to fight the bad guys that come their way, engaging more seriously this time, and Faye reminds them that there's no reward if they shoot the bounty in the face. In the last scene, Spike and Jet argue about intentionally targeting the bounty in the face, while Faye gives an exasperated sigh. They are seen casually hanging out at their headquarters, the Bebop.

What the teaser reveals is both Spike and Faye's characterizations are noticeably different from the original ones. The sequencing was also too organized that the exchange between characters seems stiff, but the special effects and cinematography put a great display of creativity, which somehow cover for its deviation from the source material. This gives away little about the upcoming live-action series making enough room for the audience to look forward to.

Cowboy Bebop streams on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
