Matsumura Hokuto, Tamashiro Tina join xxxHOLiC live-action movie

In the spring of 2022, CLAMP's xxxHOLiC will rock the theatres of Japan with its upcoming live-action movie adaptation starring Kamiki Ryunosuke as Watanuki Kimihiro and Shibasaki Kou as Ichihara Yuko. This time, the participation of Matsumura Hokuto from SixTONES as Doumeki Shizuka and Tamashiro Tina as Kunogi Himawari has been confirmed.

xxxHOLiC is based on Kodansha's manga series created by CLAMP, a four-woman manga studio that is known for its titles such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Chobits. This fantasy seinen manga foregrounds a not-so-normal high school student Watanuki, who involuntarily sees ghosts and spirits on a daily basis, and his chance encounters with Yuko in her mysterious shop that grants people wishes. In exchange for helping Watanuki to be freed from the sight of the spirits, Yuko tricks Watanuki into becoming a part-time worker in her shop, though it turns out to be a magical and one-of-a-kind job experience for the boy.

Along with Watanuki and Yuko are Doumeki, a cool-headed and mysterious student who lives in the temple, and Kunogi, a cute girl in bunches whom Watanuki has a crush on. They are also considered significant parties who will help complete the stage for the movie.

Matsumura will play the role of Doumeki, who will become a close comrade to Watanuki despite the latter being overly annoyed with him at first. As a member of the archery club, he will be showing off his skills in fighting the "ayakashi" with his bow and arrow. Matsumura said, "I am quite happy to be a part of a production that embodies a delicate message in exciting images."

Meanwhile, Tamashiro will bring Kunogi to life, unveiling the ways of the beautiful girl, who seems to have a hidden secret behind her innocent smiles. Tamashiro commented, "I have a lot of scenes with Kamiki-san and Matsumura-san, and even if the scenes are serious, we are able to talk like real classmates, and the three of us could have a lot of fun finishing the shooting."

Directed by Ninagawa Mika, xxxHOLiC will premiere on April 29, 2022, in theatres in Japan.
