Netflix reveals the cast of 'One Piece' live-action series; begins with East Blue Saga

Four years after Netflix announced that it is adapting One Piece into a live-action series in celebration of its 20th anniversary, the main cast has finally been revealed on November 10, 2021. One Piece follows the pirate Monkey D. Luffy and his crewmates in their pursuit of the greatest treasure found by the legendary pirate Gol D. Roger. With more than 490 million copies sold and still counting since it was published by Shueisha in 1997, One Piece continues to transcend generations for having more than 1,000 chapters and its 100th volume released just recently. Oda Eiichiro, the creator of One Piece, has been working closely with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios as one of the series' executive producers to create the live-action adaptation of the best-selling manga of all time. The casting announcement and production continued to be hampered since then by different factors, the latest of which was COVID-19, and there have been doubts from fans whether the project would push through or not. Finally, the One Piece live-action is here, and people are hyped for it.

Message from Oda Eiichiro:

"We’ve been working with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios on the massive project that is the Hollywood live-action series adaptation of ONE PIECE! How many years has it been since it was announced, right? I know, I know! But rest assured we’ve been making steady progress all along! It’s not easy when you’re working with people from different cultures! But it’s precisely that process that can yield something special! For now, we’re able to announce the main cast! Rather, we need to hurry and announce it or else it’ll be leaked, apparently! Hilarious, lol. Their face, the size of their mouths and hands, their aura, the way they carry themselves, their voice, their acting skills, their height, the balance amongst the Straw Hat Crew, etc…! We decided on this cast after numerous discussions involving people around the world! These are the people who will be our Straw Hat Pirates! It’ll take a bit more time to get this show done, but we’ll continue to do our best to deliver a show that we’re confident will be enjoyed by everyone around the world! Look forward to more updates in the future!"
