‘Osomatsu-san’ live-action movie release date confirmed for March 2022

Osomatsu-san released a lively teaser, finally announcing the screening date of the live-action movie for March 2022. In addition to the Matsuno sextuplets in colorful hoodies, three new characters in black hoodies are featured. The teaser was narrated by Sakurai Takahiro, a voice actor from the series.

Johnny and Associates’ popular idol group Snow Man will star as the Matsuno brothers, and three new characters: End, Close, and Period. Mukai Koji will portray the titular Osomatsu, and the original characters, End, Close, and Period will be portrayed by Watanabe Shota, Abe Ryohei and Miyadate Ryota respectively. The film will be directed by Hanabusa Tsutomu, who is known for live-action movies Kakegurui and Tokyo Revengers.

Gag anime Osomatsu-san is based on Akatsuka Fujio’s manga series Osomatsu-kun first published in 1962. It was aired in October 2015 in celebration of Akatsuka’s 80th birthday. The anime follows through the shenanigans of mischievous Matsuno sextuplets, now grown into NEET adults. Despite being previously adapted into musicals and stage plays, this will be the first live-action adaptation of the anime series.
